Central Florida’s Hidden Gems With Estee Martin: International Hot Glass

We’ve teamed up with icflorida so you can follow Estee Martin on her many adventures around Central Florida.  She’s found some hidden gems that are #WorthDoing right in your own backyard.  Recently Estee got FIRED UP at International Hot Glass located in Artegon Marketplace.  Here’s an inside look into her recent experience with glass work.

Hey Central Florida, looking for something hot and hands on to do? Look no further than glass blowing at International Hot Glass at Artegon Marketplace. Watch as I get fired up in this installment of Central Florida’s Hidden Gems.

I am going to go ahead and put this out there: I am not an artist. I also don’t have a whole lot of experience handling molten glass. Despite all of this, I was able to create a beautiful work of art with the help of Brandon Price, International Hot Glass’s studio manager. Just about anyone can try their hand at glass blowing, but for guests who want to keep it cool, International Hot Glass contains a gallery where you can purchase a world-class piece and you can even work with a professional glass blower to plan out your own unique work of art. But, I was ready to get hands on with one of IHG’s glass blowing workshops.

The workshops start at around $45, and you get to take your custom piece home with you! To start things out, Brandon showed me around the Hot Shop. They call it the Hot Shop because things are, well – hot! It is in this area where all the furnaces are located and these furnaces can heat glass up to over 2000 degrees Fahrenheit! For my creation, I decided to make a beautiful flower. Brandon and I grabbed some glass from the furnace, rolled it out, and colored it as you can see in the video above. It was so much fun to see a big ball of molten glass turn into such a unique work of art. After everything was finished, we stuck it into an annealing oven and I picked it up the next day. Now my flower sits on display at home; a constant reminder of my wonderful visit to International Hot Glass!
