I-4 Ultimate Traffic Shift In Downtown May Affect Your Commute
We all knew the I-4 Ultimate Project was going to affect our daily commutes but what we didn’t see this coming. The Florida Department of Transportation announced Dec. 3 that a new traffic shift for eastbound I-4 will begin Dec. 6. The traffic for a half mile between Colonial Drive and Ivanhoe Boulevard (Ivanhoe Village) will host both directions of traffic. This means the eastbound lanes will be sharing the westbound lanes for a half-mile. The new traffic pattern near Lake Ivanhoe is expected to be the new route for your commute for the next year.
Segment of eastbound I-4 traffic to join with westbound lanes
It may feel like you’re literally driving on the wrong side of the road for a while. The closure is part of the $2.3 billion I-4 Ultimate project that will reconstruct 21 miles of the interstate from west of Kirkman Road to east of State Road 434 in Longwood. The traffic shift follows the permanent closure of I-4 exit ramps 81B and 81C at Kaley Avenue. Make sure to be safe and pay attention as you and your fellow commuters get use to this traffic transition.
