Orlando Magic Make Large Donation To UCF Downtown Campus
And just like MAGIC the University of Central Florida has received it’s first large donation to help pay for the NEW Downtown UCF Campus location. The Orlando Magic have donated $1.5 million making this the first major private donation of the $20 million fundraising effort of the UCF Foundation.
“A strong, vibrant, dynamic downtown is paramount to the continued growth of our community,” said Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins, a UCF trustee and alumnus, in a prepared statement. “UCF’s downtown campus will be a catalyst for that continued development, bringing several thousand students downtown, while serving as a center for job creation.”
First Private Donation To Downtown UCF Campus A Catalyst For Additional Funding
The first academic building of the UCF Downtown Campus will cost $60 million. The university wants to pay for it in a divided manner: $20 million from UCF, $20 million from the state and $20 million from private donations. Around 7,700 students are expected to enroll in classes at the downtown campus. UCF Foundation CEO Michael Morsberger is optimistic that several other gifts will be finalized by Jan. 15, and that this first donation will be a catalyst for others.
“We’ve had about 10 active conversations with potential donors over the past couple of months. I’m cautiously optimistic that at least a few of those are going to bear fruit and yield a gift prior to the Board of Governors meeting.” – Michael Morsberger (UCF Foundation CEO)
