University Club In Downtown Orlando Has Been Sold To New Developers
We’re sure that you’re painfully aware of the outdated, eyesore on the corner of Downtown Orlando’s Central Blvd and Rosalind Ave better known as University Club. The University Club, or otherwise known as the U-Club, is or was Downtown Orlando’s Premier Private Club. Members of this club typically hold positions in Downtown Orlando as lawyers, bankers, business owners, etc. Established in 1926, the club’s purpose was for high rollers to socialize, network, and create business relationships with other members. Rumor has it that it was more about fun and games than networking that happened behind those closed doors, *wink wink* ….
New Apartments Concept Taking Over University Club Location
On Monday, August 1st, the City of Orlando announced that the University Club has officially been sold to the developer, Mill Creek Residential to build a 22-story high rise building. We won’t be saying “Au Revoir” to the University Club as they will allegedly still have a club inside the new apartment building. The new building will be named Modera Central and was sold for $6.85 million. The idea of rebuilding and expanding this property has been on and off for several years, but now we can look forward to a new addition to Downtown Orlando’s skyline.
The new 350 apartment building will include a two story University Club, ground floor retail, and we’re guessing stunning amenities to go along with the “luxury apartment homes.” We will start seeing major demolition beginning this month through October and the official construction process will begin at the end of 2016. Members of the University Club won’t be entering its doors again until the Fall of 2018. The new club will feature an updated 25,000 square foot complex. Members can expect a spa, gym, and several sections for networking, drinking, and eating.
Keep your eye out while you’re out and about in Downtown Orlando because major things are in store for 150 E Central Blvd. Stay tuned!
